Alaska

Alaska. For me this has been a dream come true. I have always fantasized about making it to Alaska and here we are.

Glaciers and rickety wood bridges. Sludgy rapid rivers and mountains and lakes for miles and miles and miles. Land of the midnight sun.

Picture taken at midnight. It only gets slightly darker around 1 a.m.

We stayed in Seward on July 4th for the famed Marathon Mountain race and the midnight fireworks and boat parade. Then we drove across the peninsula to Homer and had a drink at the Salty Dawg and met our driveway host for the next couple days, Captain Pete. You’ll get to hear from Pete in Season 8 of the podcast, but let me tell you now, this guy is a true gent. We had a fish fry and swapped stories until, well, the sun stayed up.

Then we stopped in Anchorage to visit with the Wallace family, owners of Last Frontier Westys. You’ll get to hear more from them in Season 8 as well. Then we headed for the border. But, Adie, had other plans for us in Tok. More on that next week.
