The AlCan roads continued to be positively lunar, the way back every bit as murderously potholed as the way up. With each bounce and jostle, Miracle winced in pain and I apologized—to her, to the bus, to Jolene, to the cars stacked up behind us. At least we had some good seats.

Alaska
Alaska. For me this has been a dream come true. I have always fantasized about making it to Alaska and here we are.
The Milepost

Yukon
Alaska is next door and it is calling. But we had time to stop in the sign forest and stop in Whitehorse for an afternoon.
British Columbia
Green and water, water everywhere—clouds and mist and lakes and too many waterfalls to count.
Victoria
We loved this city.
Suspicious campsites
Bones (obviously animal on close inspection) and a broken safe at two of our off-the-grid campsites. No, we won’t say where this was or if we reported it. I’ve seen enough Coen brothers movies to know better.
Goodbye, Washington
Goodbye to the clearest waters and greenest forests I have ever seen. Cloud wreathed mountains and the northwesternest point in the lower 48. The hospitality of the Makah and empty beaches littered with conical shells. I hope we make it back here again someday.
Creepy friends
Oregon is crawling and slithering and festooned with amazing creatures. Here’s a few that were slow enough that I could get a picture.
