West Texas is bleak, my friends. Driving the last 60 miles out of Texas is a barren, hollow, desolate, scouring of the inside of your soul experience. Nothing but oil horses and RV parks for their workers, flat parchment land. The only notable features are the wire skeletons with electric wires swooping between them andContinue reading “West Texas”

We went to Mexico!
We were right there on the border in Presidio and we figured, “How could we not?” So we went. Yes, every single Mexican person laughed at me for not knowing Spanish. Yes, I only had American dollars and, no, I did not notify my bank that I would be out of country so my cardContinue reading “We went to Mexico!”
Support your state parks!
We love our National Park System. We really do. But they can be crowded. Texas so far
A giant fiberglass squirrel. An old dance hall on the outskirts of town. Nighttime camping along the river. LBJ’s boyhood home and the best view in all of Austin. It’s been a full week.
Texas Wine Trail
You know about California wines. Everyone knows about California wines and the madness that is Napa (for once not the auto parts store—which is also madness). New York and Washington wines have their claims to fame as well. Let’s not forget some of the best wine we’ve ever had in Michigan too. But did youContinue reading “Texas Wine Trail”
Made it to Texas
State number 30 for us. We stayed in the Angelina National Forest.
Louisiana in review
Miracle loves New Orleans and was elated to get back to one of her favorite places to wine and dine. Fortunately, we had a driveway stay in the city, making it both convenient and affordable to stay within the city. We did eat at a couple of restaurants and grabbed some beignets to make sureContinue reading “Louisiana in review”
Mississippi odds and ends
It feels like we have been in Mississippi for a long time. Perhaps it is because the weather changed so drastically over the past week that it feels like we must have crossed several biomes. But here are some observations I’ve made:
