We’ve added some bonus episodes called Detours. In each detour we veer off the VW route and delve into some of the material from past interviews was left on the cutting room floor. In this episode we talk about people spelling their names and that time Nellie had a close encounter with a horse.

Goodbye, Washington
Goodbye to the clearest waters and greenest forests I have ever seen. Cloud wreathed mountains and the northwesternest point in the lower 48. The hospitality of the Makah and empty beaches littered with conical shells. I hope we make it back here again someday.
Podcast: Xavier
Xavier Laurentio is a larger than life, colorful character. He’s been a bodyguard, an actor and is now a bonafide chef in New Orleans. We met up with Xavier at his home in NOLA and he told us about leaving his home country of Spain for the States, his travels and adventures across the USContinue reading “Podcast: Xavier”
Podcast: Jaymi
Jaymi Millard, VW collector and bassist for the band Slaughter (yes, that Slaughter) loves pink guitars, has a pink beard, and has a VW bus story or two to tell. We caught up with Jaymi in his Tennessee kitchen to hear a few tales from the hundreds of buses he’s owned.
Podcast: Jenn & Alice
We met Jennifer and Alice in Austin, Texas, and they were both eager to tell us about their VW buses and what the VW bus community means to them, but the real story was how these two became fast friends over their mutual love for Vanagons.
California: Take your bus and git

You might be surprised to find out that before David Dotson was Dolly Parton’s right hand man for her nonprofit, he was a VW bus owner. We had the good fortune of interviewing David at the Dollywood Foundation Headquarters in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee (in what would be the last interview ever conducted in that building).Continue reading “Podcast: David Dotson”
Resources and risk (part 2 of 4)
Here’s a preview of next season: we interviewed a fascinating guy named John Hammond—a fellow podcaster, academic, and, of course, VW owner. The podcast will likely cover the VW stuff. But our conversation with John covered another interesting topic—risk. See, John has a podcast called Make Moves where he talks to people who take risks.Continue reading “Resources and risk (part 2 of 4)”
Risk (part 1 of 4)
We were driving down Highway 1, just south of the famed Big Sur section—claimed to be the most scenic drive in all of the US. I love a good drive with curves and inclines and scenery. Bridges are a plus. And I love the opportunity to pull out on the berm for a vista. AndContinue reading “Risk (part 1 of 4)”
Podcast: Jason
We connected with Jason Vogen, of OldVolksTV, as well as VolksAmerica and VolksMania magazines, in Austin, Texas right around the time that Volkswagen was premiering the new ID Buzz at SXSW. Jason was there and got the inside scoop. Hear how people reacted to the newest member of the VW bus family and also aboutContinue reading “Podcast: Jason”
